About Ottawa Lithuanian Community

In 1949, a group of volunteers started organizing people of Lithuanian origin in Canada. The first meeting of Lithuanians in Canada was held in 1952 which resulted in the founding of the Lithuanian-Canadian Community (LCC).  All Canadians of Lithuanian origin are members of the LCC.

Lithuanians living in Ottawa gathered in 1949 and officially joined the LCC in 1952. Since then about 17 chapters have formed across Canada.

This website will share news about activities planned by the Ottawa chapter as well as other events of interest to Lithuanian-Canadians. As well, news about our members and other related groups and organizations will be posted.

Throughout the last 59 years, many organizations have been established in Ottawa including:

  • Dr. Vincas Kudirka Lithuanian language school
  • “Gintaras” volleyball club,
  • “Ramuneles” girls’ singing group
  • “Vingis” Lithuanian folk dance group
  • “Arija” women’s singing ensemble

and others.

Without having a centre of its own, the Ottawa's Lithuanians rent local facilities for events and gatherings.
